NSDC Trainer , Skill Session

On 25th May 2025, Don Bosco Tech Society hosted an inspiring session from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with Mr. Shiju Thomas, a certified NSDC Master Trainer, founder of ACE Content Creation, and currently associated with Infosys. The session was a perfect blend of motivation, practical learning, and interactive activities that left students enriched and energized.

The event began with a motivational talk by Mr. Thomas, who shared his personal journey of overcoming financial hardships and educational challenges. Growing up in a modest family and studying in government schools while his sister attended an English medium school, he emphasized that education does not end with employment. Drawing from his own experience, he inspired students to continue learning, especially the English language, which he highlighted as essential for effective communication beyond one’s hometown. He challenged students to develop a reading habit, suggesting a one-month plan to read at least one article a day or weekly, regardless of full comprehension, to build language skills steadily.

The session then transitioned into a creative drawing activity designed to strengthen communication and listening skills. Students were guided to draw an egg shape with additional patterns, ultimately forming an image resembling a bird. This exercise symbolized how careful listening and clear communication help shape understanding, reinforcing the idea that effective interaction requires attention to detail.

Following this, Mr. Thomas explored greetings and body language, explaining the three types of personal space—private, social, and public—and their importance in interpersonal communication. He also discussed the value of respectful behavior and confident posture while speaking or presenting, helping students become more mindful and self-assured in their interactions.

Students then participated in a conversation practice session to enhance their spoken English fluency. This hands-on exercise allowed them to engage in live interactions, building confidence and improving articulation. To add an element of energy and fun, an action song activity composed and choreographed by Mr. Thomas encouraged active participation while reinforcing rhythm, memory, and coordination.

Throughout the session, Mr. Thomas shared motivational insights, using the example of a butterfly emerging from a cocoon to illustrate the importance of stepping out of one’s comfort zone for growth. He connected this idea to the purpose of examinations, explaining that challenges are opportunities to discover one’s potential. He reassured students that problems are temporary and emphasized the role of determination and perseverance in overcoming obstacles.

A team-building activity involving the creation of paper boats further reinforced the importance of collaboration. Each team received two sheets of newspaper and was tasked with making 40 uniform paper boats. This exercise highlighted proper planning, attention to instructions, effective teamwork, and time management—skills that are invaluable in professional and personal life.

The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer segment, giving students the opportunity to clarify doubts and exchange thoughts with the speaker. The interactive nature of the discussion left a lasting impression, fostering curiosity and reflection.

The session by Mr. Shiju Thomas was not just a motivational talk but a holistic learning experience. Students walked away with renewed confidence, practical life skills, and enhanced English communication abilities, making it a memorable and transformative event for the Don Bosco Tech community.
